Patrons' Reception

Every year the Castle of Mey's Trustees invite Patrons and selected other guests only, to an evening reception in either London or Scotland.

In 2007 the reception was held at the Goring Hotel, St James's, London. The party was deemed such a great success that it was held at the Goring Hotel again in 2008 and 2009. It was held this year, 2010, on 25th May, again at the Goring Hotel.

Last year, The Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey Trust launched their Turret Appeal at the reception and the fantastic support received from contributions by so many generous people and organisations means the turret has now been built and visitors are able to enjoy the spectaular views over the gardens and Penttland Firth towards the Orkneys.

Thanks must also go to the builders, John Munro from Thurso who battled through our worst winter for many years to make sure the turret was built in time.

The New Turret Opening

This year, guests are being invited to sponsor an animal. The Animal Centre at the castle is based in the old granary and is enjoyed by children and adults alike. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere gives them the opportunity to see animals well cared for in a happy environment. Visitors can have hands-on, supervised contact with some of the animals, providing an enjoyable and educational visit.

  • £50 Donation will sponsor a duck, goose, guinea pig, rabbit or hen.
  • £200 Donation will sponsor a goat or ewe.
  • £400 Donation will sponsor a donkey, Highland cow or heifer calf.
  • £1000 will purchase a bench and personally inscribed plaque

If you are not already a friend or patron this will entitle you to the corresponding membership and anyone wishing to make one of the above donations or find out more can contact Tracymccarthy@castleofmey.org.uk or post to Tracy McCarthy, The Castle of Mey, Thurso, Caithness KW14 8XH.
